I used to have to drive to the far side of Edmonton every Thursday to pick up Shawn's check. This used to take 3 hours just straight there and straight back. Now we are direct deposit thank goodness so on thursday's I now have some free time to hit a few of my favorite thrift stores. I have an ongoing list of what I collect and the few things I need. I have a thing for Country Living Series Books 1.49, 1950's Cocktail napkins 4 for 1.50, linen cocktail napkins 4 for 99 cents. One big thing that was on my list was a new dresser for Bailey. The one she has now is too tall for her to see the top and much to bulky and big for her room. Today as I was driving home I saw a dresser out front of a Thrift store. I stopped instantly and ran in; it was a cheap Ikea model that was barely being held together and they wanted 80 dollars for it. As I walked back to my SUV I saw a pawn shop next door that showed some promise. It was 3 large rooms filled floor to ceiling with every piece of furniture and a lot of crap. I plucked up my nerve and walked gingerly thru the narrow paths down the center of each room. Mid way down the last room was a dresser that showed promise. After we cleared off the tables, chair, lamp, and many inches of dust we pulled out a solid wood 4 drawer dresser with potential. The masking tape tag was 75 dollars I asked if that was his best price and asked if he'd take 65. He said sure and if I didn't need a receipt he'd pay the gst. I can't wait to get at it, stripping off the horrible barn paint. I'll let you see the finished product soon.
